St. Charles of Brazil parish continues it's outreach
program each month providing "home-cooked" dinner for 80-100 men who are currently
homeless and living at the Westside Men's Shelter and Resource
Center, located on the campus of Spring Grove Hospital Center.
We are asking that parishioners bring donations of
-
Large cans of Short-Cut Green Beans
-
Large cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup
-
Boxed Instant Mashed Potatoes
(we currently have plenty of potatoes)
-
Foil Pans
We will also need donations of ground beef (or cash
to purchase)
so that on the Tuesday evening before the THIRD WEDNESDAY we can gather in the kitchen connected to our worship space
to prepare Shepherd's Pie. The ground beef can be stored in the
refrigerator in the kitchen, but should obviously be brought on the
Sunday before we cook.
The Westside Shelter has been running for over 5 years under the
sponsorship of Baltimore County and the Lazarus Caucus, a coalition
of churches in Southwest Baltimore County. The shelter has evolved
from a winter-only shelter to a year-round facility that houses and
feeds approximately 80-100 men at any given time. No food is provided
from County funding, so ALL of the meals (3x365) are provided by
area churches.
Homelessness is an enormous (and growing) problem in our area that
effects many men, women and children. This is our way of
contributing to the care of those who are in need.
Here is a recent story that appeared in the Catonsville Times.
